LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Deecie Denison introduced Simon Dennis of the Center for Transformational Practice in White River Junction described the way he has used thetransformational approach to solve political problems. He described the transformation pocess by using the example of work he did when he worked for COVER, where he observed that the disrepair in homes was often linked to larger issues: under-employment, medical problems, or a lack of connection within the community. That led him to go into community building because he saw it as the best means for addressing the root causes of long term issues.  He offered some examples of community building we use in our meetings such as our recitation of the pledge of allegiance, observing of birthdays, and “check/ins” we do as we sit around our lunch table and share experiences through happy dollars. He closed his talk with quote from Vaclev Havel: “Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better.”
