LAST WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Todd Allen, this year’s co-leader in the bell-ringing initiative, outlined this year’s plan for fund-raising for LISTEN, noting that it will include a special event on December 3 followed by “live” bell-ringing Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. He reported that last year’s bell ringing videos will be augmented by new ones and encouraged everyone in the club to find a way to participate in this event. Details on this will be forthcoming in the coming weeks as the season comes upon us.

Once again, Todd reminded club members that our club was successful last year because members “primed the pump” by contributing to the fundraising in advance by redirecting the dollars they WOULD have spent on lunch at Jesse’s into our pool of matching funds. He announced that such an opportunity exists THIS year as well, reminding the 25+ in attendance that collectively they saved over $400 in meal costs today! The link to the Kickstart campaign can be found HERE. I just made an online donation to cover my $25/meal November costs to make sure the link worked… why don’t you give it a try?

LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM

Len Cadwallader introduced Bob Keene who offered us a fascinating history of the Red Logan Dental Clinic in Hartford, VT. Founded in the 1970s by a dedicated civically minded dentist, “Red Logan”, the clinic began as a free service to Hartford children. Originally staffed by dental professionals who volunteered one evening a week, it has now evolved into a dental office staffed by a fulltime paid dentist and a mix of professional volunteers and part-time volunteers. It is a wonderful example of how grassroots local funding can change the lives of scores of families and children when one individual strives to make a difference by putting service above self… and in this case it is TWO people who did so: Red Logan and, as Todd Allen informed us, Bob Keene, who has quietly and effectively carried Red Logan’s vision forward.
